This is how 2 referees rated David:
I am a cellist and an ex pupil of Chethams School of Music in Manchester, and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London. I studied with Raphael Wallfisch for several years before becoming a professional cellist myself. During my years at Chethams I was successful in many national and international cello competitions, including the Welsh Eisteddfod and the Prague International Cello Competition. I was also lead cellist of the Chethams Symphony Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra. During my break between Chethams and Guildhall, I was the cellist on a number of albums by Night Trains (Jazz) and Tiu de Haan (folk and jazz). I also recorded my own album of the Bach Cello Suites which will return to the iTunes store shortly. I also play the piano and sing (baritone)
I began teaching the cello before studying at the Guildhall in London with Raphael Wallfisch. Primarily to private individuals ranging from 8 years old to pensioner age. I have also taught primary school children at my home town in Pembrokeshire during their summer holidays to help them keep up with their goals and practice during the break period.
Having been fortunate enough to have such wonderful and inspiring teachers myself, including Paul Tortelier, Antonio Lysy and Raphael Wallfisch, I have gained extensive knowledge and techniques in my approach to teaching others. I am able to teach from the very young who are new to the cello, to the more advanced and concert/exam players who wish to stretch their ability and goals. My main aim with all cello playing is to have fun. I teach practical exercises for a solid and secure technique and approach problems with a sense of: Problem acknowledged - resolution - practice plan.
