Information About David - Waterlooville tutor - (5 reviews)
This is how 3 referees rated David:
I retired from full-time teaching in April 2015.
I have been a specialist HomeTutor for over 3 years following 15 years of teaching Mathematics at a local school; more recently as a Learning Leader in Mathematics. During that period, I spent several years as a pastoral and curriculum progress and transition leader for year 7.
Previous teaching includes 6 years as Head of English at a school for children with moderate learning difficulties and 1-2 years as an English GCSE lecturer at a local college. I also spent a short time as Head of PE at a residential school for children with emotional and behavioural difficulties, in Bedfordshire.
My approach to tutoring is to be a personable mentor who adds extra dimensions to the school process. I believe it is very important that the tutee is comfortable with their tutor and that they can place full confidence in them. My starting point is to assess the tutee's objectives and needs, their current levels of understanding and attainment, and then discuss the necessary course of action with them and their parents. A programme of study will then be decided upon and a consensus of time frame agreed. Tuition contact time will be spent mainly on directed skills and methods, plus supported problem solving to promote conceptual understanding. My hourly rate is for all locations within 3 road miles of Purbrook/Waterlooville. There is an additional travel cost of between 2 and 7 pounds per session for distances between 4 and 14 road miles.
