Personal Description:

I gained my PGCE in Secondary Mathematics education at The University of Wolverhampton and have QTS. Prior to entering teaching I worked in the chemical industry for 30 years, and it was within this setting where I came to appreciate how crucial maths is in nearly every workplace situation. I decided I should use my experience to help young people achieve their goals in mathematics by making the subject interesting and accessible.
I recently studied with the Open University and gained a First Class Honours degree in IT and Computing.

Tutoring Experience:

Since qualifying and working in a Staffordshire Secondary School maths department I decided to concentrate on 1 to 1 and small group tutoring. I work for a private tutoring company delivering GCSE booster lessons to small groups at the weekend. I also work with local secondary schools, and I have also worked in conjunction with the local authority social services, delivering 1 to 1 tutoring to children from deprived backgrounds. In addition to this I have a number of private 1 to 1 clients some of whom have school age children and who value my contribution to their children's rapid progress in maths, and others who are mature students seeking support in GCSE maths for their further education. I always keep and act upon feedback from all my private clients, and I would be happy to share these with any prospective new client.

Tutoring Approach:

For any new client, I will reduce the cost of the first lesson to £12.50 to mitigate your introduction charges. During that first lesson I will identify and agree with you any key areas of weakness. I will also give guidance and suggest strategies on how to approach and answer exam questions, and how to breakdown multi-step problems. The notes I take from this first lesson will then allow me to tailor bespoke lessons which focus on the topic areas identified. There will be no pressure to take any more lessons than a client wishes to take, and indeed I am perfectly happy to take one off sessions and revision booster sessions prior to examinations.
