This is how 2 referees rated David:
I`m an experienced and enthusiastic teacher of Mathematics, living in Oxford. I am married with two children, a boy (14) and a girl (12).
I have been Head of Maths in two schools, most recently at St Edward`s in Oxford, where I have taught for 14 years and been a Housemaster. I have prepared pupils of all abilities for GCSE/IGCSE, A levels (including Further Maths), and IB (HL and SL). I have examined for EdExcel, and set and marked common entrance exams.
My hourly rate includes all materials, and is competitive with those of reputable independent tutors in Oxford. Some tutors do have lower rates, but they may not be qualified experienced teachers, but simply university students supplementing their income. I offer the first half-hour lesson free, so that the student can meet me and decide whether or not they would like to be tutored by me.
Success in Maths is all about confidence. Confidence is easy to restore with individual tuition, where we work at the student`s pace with gentle encouragement, clear explanations and guided practice using appropriate examples. With a classroom teacher with 14+ years' local UK experience, students get someone who already knows what they may find hard, and when to speed up and or slow down. Patience and praise are important, so that students feel comfortable to ask questions and develop deeper understanding.
I generally give Maths tuition to A-level and IB students and help them achieve the grades they need to meet their university offers. Sometimes I have availability for younger years - please feel free to enquire.
