Information About David - Dorking tutor
This is how 2 referees rated David:
I am experienced as both teacher and headteacher. I have also worked abroad and enjoy the challenge of helping children without English as a first language. For myself I enjoy history, photography and walking, together with as much travel as I can manage. I have a year old daughter so fully appreciate the demands of home life set against the needs of school.12 year old daughter who keeps me up to date!
I have taught in four Surrey schools, These are in Dorking, Reigate, South Godstone and Esher. The last two were headships. I was then invited to become the headteacher of the British Embassy School in Ankara, Turkey. For the last four years I have been running a brand new school which I set up in Baku, Azerbaijan. Although this school is for 4 to 18 year olds my own experience has largely been with primary pupils and especially assisting pupils to reach higher levels of both English and maths at KS2. A personal achievement was for over half the puplis in Turkey to reach level 5 in all their SATs tests at age 11.
Firstly a need to understand a child and their learning potential. Each child needs a particular approach, whether that be aural or visual in forms of learning. A sympathetic teacher is one who understand pupils anxieties and their mood swings. Often tutoring takes place at the end of a long school day and special care needs to be taken to maintain enthusiasm. A sense of humour is vital and I would be upset if tutor and child did not manage to laugh together as well as achieve academically.
