Highly qualified Economics teacher (PGCE). I obtained a BA (Upper Second) and MA (Econ) with many years teaching experience in both London and the North of England. I have also seen how organisations work in practice having taken a sideways step into IT a number of years ago for a large bank.
Whilst I have taken a break from teaching I’m fully up to speed with the current subject matter and exam requirements.
I have worked for over ten years in both the north of England and in London as a fully qualified teacher. My experience covers both GCSE and A Level.
Many students seem to struggle at first with Economics, all too often attempting to apply a ‘common sense’ approach. I have found that the best approach is to dispel this and approach the subject as a way of thinking that can be learned.
I also focus on phasing in techniques that maximises exam marks from a given level of knowledge and understanding. This involves referencing the exams themselves along with the examiners’ reports as well as essential exam technique (skills which are transferrable). The approach involves ensuring obtaining the maximum marks from the more standard questions as well as how to wring as many marks as possible from the more discriminating questions.
With respect to Mathematics (which was an integral part of my Economics Degrees) I adopt the same approach and aim to instil confidence in a student as probably more than other subjects it is this that undermines achievement.
