I am a recently retired teacher age 60 from a private school. I enjoy teaching and am still enthusiastic about Economics, Business Studies and Mathematics. I find current affairs very interesting although I am starting to get bored with Brexit all the time! I went to Kirkham Grammar where I got a grade A in A Level Economics and then graduated with a Second Class Honours Degree in Economics from Manchester University. Initially went into accountancy then realised that teaching was my true vocation. I enjoy one to one teaching and get a sense of achievement knowing that I can make a difference.
Initially I taught Economics and Mathematics at a Secondary School on the Wirral and then went to a Grammar School teaching Mathematics , Economics and Business Studies. I gained promotion and became Head of Economics and Business Studies . After this I taught in private education and retired this summer 2017. I have a clean Enhanced Certificate issued by the Disclosure and Barring Service on 22/1/2019.
I believe that the best approach to tutoring is a combination of past papers and building up the confidence of the tutee. My experience of teaching Mathematics has shown me that quite often the pupils that struggle with this subject need a boost to their self confidence and adopting a can do attitude. I try to achieve this by positive reinforcement and over time this makes a difference. Economics is a more challenging subject but is also fascinating and relevant to the modern world. My approach here is similar to tutoring Mathematics but their is more of an opportunity to stimulate interest which can then act as a motivator.
