Philosophy / Critical Thinking
I have a solid background in philosophy, covering both the analytic and continental traditions. My primary areas of expertise are ethics/moral philosophy, aesthetics, metaphysics and philosophy of religion. Secondary areas of interest include philosophy of language and political philosophy. My research focuses on aesthetics, bringing together strands in existentialism and phenomenology.
I have worked as a lecturer and seminar leader at Nottingham University, where I taught a combination of introductory and subject-spefic courses to undergraduates. I have also contributed to the teaching of A-Level philosophy in high school as well as been an AQA examiner. I have run tutorials at Chelsea College of art and am preparing a lecture series for the coming term there.
My approach places the student's individual needs at the centre of my practice, so that sessions are structured around the knowledge and skills the student requires. I believe that philosophy is best taught by example, in addition to the more traditional abstract thought, so I often relate ideas to issues in popular culture or develop practical exercises. I aim to help my students understand ideas through critical analysis, but also to inspire them towards independent thought.
