Having begun my career at English National Opera, I am now at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, on their prestigious Opera Course. I have a background in the Cathedral Choral tradition, having started singing as a boy treble, but I am now an operatic tenor. My primary musical interest is in opera, however, I also enjoy singing musical theater and pop music. Although music is my profession and my passion, I also greatly enjoy hiking, cooking and anything related to Star Wars!
During my three years working for English National Opera I was able to work closely with many respected conductors and coaches who have informed my knowledge of musical styles, ranging from Gilbert and Sullivan, to Puccini, to Philip Glass. I have experience teaching complete beginners, as well as experience coaching singers at the music college level.
My approach to all genres of singing stems from a strong grounding in classical bel canto vocal technique. Bel canto technique emphasises beauty of tone through even, well-managed breath control. This provides great flexibility of expression, regardless of the style of music you choose to sing. Discovering your voice is a highly personal yet rewarding process, and my aim is to support and encourage my students to find the potential of their own voice.
