Personal Description:

I`ve been a classroom teacher for over eight years and have taught Maths (and Further Maths) in 3 local grammar schools, all of which were rated as outstanding by Ofsted in their last inspection. This year I've decided to branch out and start offering private Maths tuition in the Gravesham and Dartford area.

I have extensive experience teaching Mathematics from Key Stage 3 through to A-level Further Mathematics, with excellent results. A number of my students have gone on to read Mathematics at Cambridge and Warwick and many more have gone on to study subjects with a significant mathematical content at various Russell Group universities.

Since I currently work in an school I`m also fully prepared for the revised GCSE and A-level courses, and have access to the most up-to-date resources.

I have a BSc. Mathematics from the University of Southampton. I also have a fully up-to-date Enhanced DBS check.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been a full-time Maths teacher for the last eight years and, in that time, have helped well over a hundred pupils pass their GCSEs and A-level exams with excellent results.

I have taught in three Ofsted outstanding grammar schools.

I have taught Key Stage 3 Mathematics, GCSE Mathematics and A-level Maths and Further Maths. I`ve also taught the AQA Level 2 Certificate in Further Mathematics.

Tutoring Approach:

Having taught such a large number of pupils over the last eight years I know all the common misconceptions and problem areas often encountered in the subject and as such I point these out immediately as I'm explaining concepts.

Working in a school, I also have access to the most up to date resources and can also advise extensively on exam technique (i.e. the way of approaching and answering questions so as to maximise the marks you get in the exam).

I always explain the thought processes that would go through my mind when tackling a problem so that the student can see where the solution comes from and also to help build their problem solving skills, something which is going to be crucial in the reformed GCSEs and A-levels.

One of the biggest barriers to success in Mathematics is often a lack of confidence. I believe that one of my main roles as a teacher is to show pupils that they are, in fact, a lot better than they think they are.
