Information About Craig - Edinburgh tutor
This is how 2 referees rated Craig:
I am currently a 5th year student studying for a Masters in chemistry at The University of Edinburgh. I am looking to offer tutoring in chemistry at the following levels, all of which I have received grades A (or equivalent) in during school:
Throughout my time at school and university I have been lucky enough to be taught chemistry by some excellent teachers and lecturers. I have noticed what a big difference a good teacher can make to the success of students, and how much more interesting a subject can become, when being taught by someone who has a lot of enthusiasm for that subject. This has inspired me to one day go into the teaching sector when I graduate. I get real satisfaction from helping people understand a difficult subject or idea, and finding simpler and more understandable way to explain these subjects, hence why I would like to offer tutoring in chemistry.
From my past experience of being tutored for school exams, I can highly recommend tutoring for students who have difficulties with subjects. I have found that tutoring has not just helped me at that time, but I am also still benefiting from it to this day when I come across subjects areas I used to struggle with.
I find it extremely satisfying when a difficult subject area becomes much more understandable due to someone explaining the topic in a much clearer way, and it’s from previous experiences of being taught by talented tutors and teachers that has sparked a real interest for me to help students who are in the same situation I was once in.
I am free at weeknights tutoring. If you are interested then please don't hesitate to contact me and we can arrange suitable times.
I have previous experience at tutoring, where I assisted two students in preparation for their National 5 chemistry exams, who both passed. This experience was extremely beneficial to me, helping me become comfortable in tutoring other students.
During my sixth year at high school I also volunteered as a class room assistant in standard grade and higher chemistry classes. Here saw me being able to help students with any difficulties with questions they were working through, or helping students to understand areas of the subject they found difficult. This then lead me to have the opportunity to take revision classes for standard grade.
I have also had experience of working with younger school pupils in other subjects such as P.E where I would work with pupils who were struggling with some of the activities and needed help in learning new skills.
My aim is to make the session not only beneficial, but also relaxing and enjoyable for the student, and hopefully it will increase the student’s interest and understanding of chemistry.
The way I would approach all my sessions is to first let the student highlight to me the areas of the subject they struggle with, so we can focus on them. From here on I would then go over any concepts or topics that may be confusing or difficult to understand. This would all be communicated in a nice and easy pace in which the student can keep up. It’s important to keep the student interested so the session would be interactive, where I would ask questions during any explanations or demonstrations so I know that they are coping and understanding what is going on throughout.
I would try to combine this with going through past papers or exercise questions that link to these topic areas, or if the student has attempted any questions before themselves and would like help going through them.
My aim would be to create a relaxed and enjoyable environment where the student would not be embarrassed or afraid to ask any questions relating to his or her subject.
