Personal Description:

I am a Headmistress of a Lincolnshire Independent School for pupils aged 5-16 years and so have experience of teaching within both Junior and Senior Schools. I am passionate about teaching English, but I also have an empathy with and an interest in young people. I have taught in a wide range of schools both within the Independent and State sectors and I have experience as a GCSE Examiner and as a SATS Team Leader. I prepare and mark Entrance Test scripts and have been involved in projects aimed at developing Gifted and Talented pupils.
I am very approachable and enjoy tutoring in this essential subject.
I also teach 11+ and have a very high pass rate.

Tutoring Experience:

I have worked both within city comprehensives and the independent sector which has enabled me to develop a wide range of teaching strategies and approaches. I have experience of teaching pupils of all abilities including those with Dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties. I enjoy teaching across the age range and have experience of teaching adults for whom English is a second language. I have prepared pupils for Oxbridge Entrance and have been Head of a large faculty within one of the top independent schools in the country. I prepare pupils for 11+ and for CATs testing.

Tutoring Approach:

I appreciate that all pupils need good skills and qualifications in English but that some find the subject challenging. My aim, however, is to inspire confidence through engaging and effective teaching. I support work being done in school by helping pupils to respond effectively to advice already being given and then supplement this through teaching according to the demands of specific examination boards and pupils' own needs. Help and advice is given in respect of preparation for coursework and examination revision.
At 11+ I aim to make the lessons fun as the repetitive nature of the skills needed can become very dull!
