Personal Description:

Hi Prospective Tutee,

My first class hons. bachelors degree in mathematics was awarded by Durham University in 2011.
I achieved A grades in A-level maths, further maths & physics.
I also have A grade philosophy & perspectives on science AS-levels.
Additionally I have strait A/A* GCSEs.

Since graduating I have been working in business intelligence and analytics in industry so am in a position to inspire tutees with the potential careers a solid mathematical education can bring.

My degree also contained a strong strain in mathematical physics, primarily in quantum mechanics, relativity theory, classical mechanics and the study of black holes, which leaves me in a good position to tutor physics, as well as maths, to at least A-level standard.

Tutoring Experience:

I have tutoring experience from my time at university, when I supported local A-level students, since then I have been working in other areas and am returning to it now, I have a handful of clients presently and all feedback has been very positive.

Tutoring Approach:

The key to a good learning experience is preparation; I will request advance notice of the desired subject matter so that a lesson plan can be created that is pitched to the right level of complexity. I also think it important tutees feel comfortable asking questions to ensure we are always working towards their understanding.

Were appropriate I like to introduce a degree of humour into teaching, as I believe students learn best when enjoying themselves, and this aids memory. This is done in a respectful and age appropriate way designed to enhance rather than detract from the subject matter.

I also like to try to inspire students with the beauty of the mathematical world, this tends to work best with enthusiastic students, but ideally I would like students for whom maths is not their strongest suit to see it is beautiful as well as functional.
