I am a recent graduate of Cambridge University with degrees in law, economics and finance. I am also on the board of a local high school and a mum to two teenagers. I charge a small additional fee for travelling time. I tutor Maths because I enjoy helping children and seeing their confidence grow.
I have been tutoring Maths to students in Australia, and now England, for many years. I was the director of a training department in Switzerland. When at university, I ran tutorials and when at school I tutored maths to other students.
As an experienced tutor and mum to two teenage daughters, I understand that maths can be challenging/scary/loathed. I start by understanding the goals and expectations of my student. I focus on concepts rather than formulae because I believe it is important that students understand the fundamentals of maths. I break problems up into small parts so that students can see progress after successfully completing each part, building confidence and recognising that maths is do-able and important. I recognise when breaks and change are needed and give praise when my students have a go. I do my best to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable saying that they don't understand.
