## Personal Description:

I am a maths tutor from the Wordsley (West Midlands) area.

I have a passion for mathematics, computer programming, and science in general.

Tutoring is very rewarding for me, especially when I can boost the students' confidence in the subject and give them a better appreciation of why maths doesn't have to be boring or difficult.

## Tutoring Experience:

I have been able to tutor a small group of students during my last year at university.

This was quite enjoyable, but I have never wanted to teach a class of children.

I have several years tutoring experience with 3 agencies, many of the students I've tutored have since been able to pass their maths gsce/a-level exams with grades they have been aiming for.

## Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is quite simple;

Firstly I believe the tutor should show enthusiasm for what they are tutoring and keep the student interested and involved in the problems/questions being tackled. I feel the tutor should always be friendly, but should also be able to push the students to get them working harder, similar to how a personal trainer would push you to keep running.

Secondly, as maths has an upside-down pyramid like structure with each layer built upon the layer below it, if the student does not understand something, instead of just giving the answer, I'll ask more questions to uncover why. Often the problem is lower down in the pyramid, so it makes sense to fix these easier problems first, so that the original problem higher up in the pyramid can be understood.

*(A-Level Maths)*My son wanted to re-sit his AS level maths and statistics exams. Colin helped him a lot to revise all the topics and to do past papers. Colin has an incredible ability to explain mathematics and statistics topics in a student-friendly way. He is very patient and a very nice person to communicate with. Colin is always on time for the lessons and is ready to provide extra lessons if requested. He is a great tutor and I would recommend to anyone who need support in maths and statistics.

*(GCSE Maths)*Colin has been teaching my daughter for over a year. He is very professional and accommodative of the requests regarding teaching times. He knows the subject well and is able to motivate my daughter to practice more. My daughter enjoys his lessons and is progressing very well, aiming to achieve A/A* in her GCSE next year. I would strongly recommend Colin to any parents looking for Maths tutor.

**From Mary ( /5):**

*(GCSE Maths)*Colin is a first class maths tutor and in just one term has managed to turn my 15 year old son from someone who was struggling with GCSE higher maths into someone who is looking to get at least a grade B when he sits his exams next year. His maths teacher at school can't believe the difference in his ability and attitude and I am confident that he will fulfil his potential and get the grades he needs to get on his desired A level courses.

**From Jade ( /5):**

*(GCSE Maths)*Great tutor, explains maths problems well. Colin also provided past exam papers which was really helpful for self study.

**From Gurpreet ( /5):**

*(A-Level Maths)*Colin was a big asset in helping me achieve a desired grade in A Level Maths. He helped me understand the core points of the subject before expanding onto the more difficult areas. The support i received was invaluable and helped me progress my understanding at a faster rate and would definitely recommend to anyone looking for guidance with their studies.

**From Jamie ( /5):**

*(GCSE Maths)*Absolutely brilliant, because of you I've developed as a mathematician and feel extremely confident for results day in August. All I can really say is thank you.

**Reply from Colin:**Was a pleasure to tutor Jamie, he was very keen to learn and he seemed to improve a lot, essentially by fixing small algebraic errors and learning the techniques needed, gave him more confidence to solve problems. I think he started to enjoy math more after our lessons, which always helps learning a subject.

**From Joel ( /5):**

*(A-Level Maths)*brilliant made my son more confident about maths

Made it easier to understand very polite nothing to much would recommend Colin every time

**From Joe ( /5):**

*(GCSE Maths)*Thanks Colin for replying and arranging tutoring sessions for Joe so quickly and for travelling out of your way to see him. Joe found the sessions really useful and quite a few things which you went through were useful to him in the exam. We would not hesitate to contact you again in the future if we were to need further maths tuition.

**Reply from Colin:**Enjoyable lessons with William, we went through or 1 or 2 exam papers per lesson on Core 3 and Core 4 maths. William showed improvement and gained more confidence in these subjects.
