I am a professional, working biologist (marine biologist) with some 25 years experience.
I have a BSc in Biological Sciences and a Masters (MSc) in Pollution Monitoring and Ecotoxicology.
I am also a professional photographer and occasional lecturer at both Plymouth University and Plymouth College of Art.
I have taught numerous short courses over the past 20 years. These include 2nd year modules in Marine Ecology for Exeter University Environmental Sciences and Biology students; Marine Ecology and Marine Biological Survey methods seminars for Plymouth University Marine Biology students. I also teach Introductory and Advanced Photography and Photo-editing as short courses for the general public and I occasionally lecture at Plymouth College of Art. I also have many years experience teaching SCUBA diving and diving theory. I have taught these to large groups and on a one-to-one basis.
I try to approach this by identifying the areas the student is weak in, or the concepts he or she has difficulty in understanding, so I can concentrate on those areas, working to improve their understanding. I always try to make learning fun and enjoyable, keeping the student engaged whilst ensuring that the core areas are covered and the main objectives kept in mind. I try to adopt a flexible approach, depending of the needs of individuals or groups.
