Information About Clare - Plymouth tutor - (8 reviews)
This is how 3 referees rated Clare:
I'm a physics graduate with a PhD in environmental science from Imperial College London. I've lived in or around Plymouth for nearly 20 years with my family and various animals. When I'm not working I enjoy gardening, cycling and walking the dog.
I'm happy to come to your home if this is more convenient but I will ask for 50p/mile travel expenses if it's outside Plymouth.
I'm a qualified teacher and have taught in various Plymouth schools, including GCSE sciences and physics to A-level. I currently mark GCSE and A-level physics exams for OCR, AQA and Cambridge International. Prior to my PGCE I taught with the Open University which gave me a lot of small group experience, often with people who are struggling with returning to learning and need individual help explaining the ideas.
I'm friendly and patient at finding out what someone doesn't understand, and explaining things in several different ways including applying concepts to everyday life so you can visualise what is going on more easily. I love science and I believe you are more likely to do well in a subject if you enjoy it, so I do my best to make learning fun and interesting. Once I get to know you I'll be able to give you examples of how physics is involved in things you care about - whether it's cooking, animals, cars or Star Trek.
As I mark exams I know exactly what the exam boards want to see to gain marks and get the grades, although understanding the concepts has to be at the core of learning rather than learning answers by rote.

My daugther loves her lessons and she gets more confident with her learning with every lesson.
I cant praise Claire enough - she has been 100% reliable and has definitely improved my sons understanding- he has just done the first of three A level papers in Physics and came home confident and pleased that he found the paper "easy". I feel sure that he will be getting a high grade thanks to Claire's gentle and individual attention.
I can recommend Claire to anyone who's child is struggling and lacking in self confidence.
Thank you Claire
She is very knowledgeable in this subject, plans and prepares for each session, leaves work for my son to continue with and is very clear and patient.
I would highly recommended Clare as a tutor.
