I hold a BSc (hons) degree in Mathematics from the University of St Andrews. I am a chartered qualified accountant working in the Financial Services industry, however always had a love for Maths and Physics and have kept tutoring children since I graduated.
While studying at the University of St Andrews, I worked on a the "Working Together to Improve" programme where I tutored my first student from the neighbouring school. Since then, I moved to Guernsey in the Channel Islands and tutored children from the age of 11 upwards in Maths and Physics specialising in GCSE and A-Level standards.
I have also helped children with their 11+ exams and Maths Challenges (UKMT)
After 9 years of private tuition, I moved to Edinburgh to be closer to my family and am keen to pass on my knowledge and enthusiasm up here.
There is no "one size fits all" with tutoring kids - they all learn at different paces and levels.
There are many different approaches and tricks up my sleeve to get the student to that "penny drop" moment. I break down the tasks into manageable chunks to help my students understand and learn how to apply the method in exams.
I am a very patient tutor with an open minded approach. I have been told I have an infectious enthusiasm for the subjects and it makes the tuition fun, engaging and memorable.
