My name is Clare and I am really interested in teaching languages. I studied French as a child and in my final years of school took up Russian from scratch (achieving A* in both at A-level). I spent my gap year in Russia honing in on my language skills, travelling on the Trans-Siberian railway and experiencing Russian life in a rural town outside Moscow. I am currently a student of Arabic at London University's School of Oriental and African Studies and am looking for part-time tutoring. My ultimate dream is to learn as many languages as I can and become an interpreter. My interests and skills in languages encompass the literary and cultural sides of the study as well as the core grammatical elements of GCSE and pre-GCSE syllabus.
I taught English in Russia to beginner and intermediate students between the ages of (4 and 13), in individual and group classes, for over three months. Previously, I taught English to children in Swaziland for a short time. In my final year of school, I also worked one-to-one with GCSE students preparing for their Russian exams.
I think the most important thing about teaching languages is building confidence. Once students are comfortable to make their voice heard and to make mistakes, they are able to progress rapidly. Having taught children in the past and fulfilled my own dreams of learning languages, I think I can help to inspire students with a challenging but rewarding experience. As a tutor, I focus on conversation classes. I can provide material and prepare for lessons based on the individual needs of my students. I am very flexible.
