Personal Description:

PGDE-qualified English language and literature tutor, familiar with the exacting standards required of pupils at the National 4, 5, Higher and Advanced Higher levels. Available to assist pupils in their preparation for upcoming entrance exams.

I hold an MSc, MA(hons) English Literature and PGDE in Secondary English. Having undertaken postgraduate qualifications in both social and exercise sciences I have wide-ranging experience of adhering to the rigorous academic standards required at undergraduate and master's level.

I love literature and am passionate about helping tutees achieve their academic goals.

In addition to school tutoring I have experience of supporting university students with academic writing and style, as well as proofreading and editing of dissertations.

Tutoring Experience:

I hold a PGDE in Secondary English teaching.

I have experience of both 1:1 and group teaching with experience of the SQA National 4, National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher courses. I have tutored pupils towards all levels of school English examinations and have supported university students to develop their writing craft and hone their final theses.

Additionally I have seven years of experience as a theatre tutor including working for the Royal Lyceum Theatre and National Theatre of Scotland and have facilitated both adult and child community education groups.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that, rather than simply providing an answer, it is more important to help a tutee develop the skills necessary to tackle the problem. Developing strategies to approach problems and questions is more useful than learning by rote, therefore I help pupils to develop critical analysis skills that will benefit both their studies in English and their wider educational experiences.

Every tutee has different needs and priorities and as such my approach is pupil-centred and tailored to individuals' needs. It's important that tutees feel comfortable working with me in order to reach their potential and so I work to get to know my tutees, their strengths, academic goals and areas for development, while developing their confidence.
