After 22 years teaching in schools and colleges, I still love teaching. I specialise especially in helping students to achieve that all important grade 4 or 5 (the new equivalent to grade C) in GCSE English, whether they are sitting the exam for the first time or as a re-sitter, as well as supporting A-level English students to reach their potential. When I am not teaching, I enjoy various sports (as a spectator) and the beautiful landscape of Sussex.
I am currently teaching in an FE college, but have previously taught in a sixth form college and in schools. With 22 years under my belt, I have taught across a range of courses, including GCSE English, A-level English Literature and A-level English Language & Literature. I am also able to mentor students on a mixed programme, developing their study skills and commitment for learning. As well as teaching, my day job involves helping to train and develop other teachers, so I am up to date on the latest research on how students learn most effectively.
I enjoy working with students to build their confidence and skills, making learning relevant to them, combining a down to earth approach with humour and rigour. I often use technology as part of my work in the classroom and will bring these skills to private tutoring when appropriate.
