After having enjoyed a number of different roles within my teaching career, I have undertaken a rich variety of voluntary work with adults with visual impairments and am currently undertaking support work with adults in a variety of contexts.
I have been a successful English teacher of 29 years in secondary schools and sixth form colleges teaching Key Stage 3,4 and 5 to pupils of all abilities. I have recent experience of tutoring students for their Language and Literature GCSEs and for the Literacy Professional Skills test for the undergraduate teacher training programme.
Each individual has their own qualities. To get to know a person, find ways of enabling them to make full use of their abilities and to enter into a meaningful dialogue about how they make sense of new knowledge and/ or gain new skills is a constant delight to me. Understanding how an individual learns and using that understanding to unlock a person's potential is an inspiring and rewarding experience.
