My name is Claire and I have worked in Education for 10 years. I am a qualified teacher and have training as a Youth/Life Coach. I enjoy working with young people and enabling them to believe in their own potential. My career started within education and I continue to be passionate about promoting equality and inclusion for all.
Since becoming a teacher I have continued to study to ensure I always stay on top of developments within Education as well as holistic methods to ensure wellbeing and success for children of all abilities.
After finishing my undergraduate degree at University I went straight into working in schools. It was there that I discovered the potential to make positive changes to the wellbeing of others through mentoring and coaching. As a result I decided to enrol onto a PGCE and then complete an MA in Special and Inclusive Education.
Over the past decade I have taught in several Educational settings; both Specialist and Mainstream. I have specialised in working with young people and families who require additional support and positive interventions in order to overcome social, emotional, behavioural or academic barriers to achievement. In both settings I have had the role of teacher as well as vast experience of undertaking the SENCO role, overseeing the curriculum, and having responsibility for pastoral areas such as transition and options.
I have taught English, History, Geography, PSE, Citizenship and Life Skills to pupils from Year 7 - Year 13. I have extensive experience of adapting the curriculum to support the differing needs of learners.
In Specialist school settings I have worked with learners who have additional needs - ASD, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Emotional difficulties and Speech and Language Difficulties.
Tutoring can provide young people with the confidence boost they need to be successful. It can provide tailor made and specialised intervention to support young people in areas they find difficult or frustrating or boost their innate curiosity and passion for a particular subject.
During the initial tutoring session with a young person I will assess their levels and learning style to design a personal programme of learning. I will continually assess whether the young person has understood the topics being learned at school and in the tutoring sessions. I will then modify the activities and level of challenge to reflect the learners rates of progress. I always work with highly visual resources to increase engagement and support learning.
