I'm an experienced psychology teacher, and have spent 6 years as Head of Psychology and Sociology at two secondary schools. I'm currently working part time while I raise my daughters. I love psychology. It has so many different theories and approaches and I believe that there is always a way to make it relevant and interesting to students. It is also an added benefit that in studying psychology, students often learn more about themselves and the people around them. All of my experience is with the AQA specification and as exam requirements are so different between exam boards, this is the only board I offer tutoring for.
Initially working in outdoor education, I qualified as a teacher in 2011 and have taught students both in one to one situations, small groups and classroom scenarios. I have also been an examiner for AQA Psychology (new specification) and have tutored students specifically on psychology exams skills and in psychology more generally.
If you would prefer to tutor online due to the current covid 19 situation please just let me know when you first enquire and we can discuss how this might work for you
I offer tutoring for AQA specification only.
Our first meeting will be around 20 minutes and is free of charge. This is to find out more about the student, why they are seeking tutoring and ask to see some examples of work they've produced for the A Level course so far. This allows me to focus sessions quickly on the areas that will have most impact on their grades, which hopefully makes the tutoring as effective as possible. We also discuss where the student currently is in terms of grades and what their aspirations are.
Following this first meeting I put together a series of sessions to focus on the area of need which will include discussion, example exam questions, analysing example answers (both written by previous students, by myself and the examples from the exam board itself). The student and parent can look over this and are able to give constant feedback as we work through sessions. This means that if a student develops a skill quickly in one area we can move on to another.
My aim is to equip the student with the ability to self assess the level at which they are working which will be highly valuable to them in the actual exams!
Homework is always set to ensure the student can complete the work independently and allow me to give thorough feedback. I ask the student to email this work to me before the next session so we can use any feedback to tailor the next session to their needs.
As part of the tutoring I will discuss resources and what the student finds most useful to them and I can advise on textbooks. In my own teaching I work from booklets that I have put together using multiple resources and these can be used in our sessions as well if required.
