I am a Registered Health Psychologist and have extensive experience of working in academia, research and consultancy. I have an Upper Second Class Honours degree in Psychology (University of Birmingham) and a PhD in Health Psychology (Sheffield Hallam University). I was a Research Fellow at the University of Nottingham, where I was part of a team which developed a risk assessment approach to the management of stress for the Health and Safety Executive. I then worked as the in-house psychologist for Lloyds TSB Group before establishing my consultancy practice in 2001. Clients include, amongst others, Microsoft UK, Lloyds TSB, BBC, Home Office, NHS, University of Lincoln and Eggborough Power Station. I have presented at many national and international conferences.
I have worked as a Lecturer, Associate Senior Lecturer and Visiting Associate Principal Lecturer at a number of Universities, including University of Nottingham, University of Surrey, Sheffield Hallam University and Leeds Trinity University. I have taught on both undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses in Higher Education, as well as supporting students with special needs (e.g. dsylexia, dyspraxia, mental health issues) in their studies in Further Education. I have taught on a wide variety of modules, including Health Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Mental Health, Individual Differences, Occupational Psychology, and Research Methods and Statistics. I have also lectured on the Management of Exam Stress to A'level students.
I have covered all aspects of teaching, from developing course material, delivering lectures, seminars and workshops, setting exam and assignment scripts, invigilating exams, marking exams and assignments, providing feedback to tutors and liaising with Examination Boards.
My approach to teaching has always been very student focused. I ensure that the delivery is tailored to the needs of the student, and my work with students with special needs in Further Education is evidence of my ability to do this. I have been rated Good and Outstanding in the observations of my teaching in Further Education (based on Ofsted criteria), and I received excellent feedback from students for my lecturing in Higher Education in 2015.
