Hello, I'm Claire, and I completed my PhD in Cultural Studies at Goldsmiths, University of London in 2015. I am able to guide learners interested in critical theory, art theory, art history, and visual culture. I have an MA in Art and Politics from Goldsmiths, a BA in History of Art and Architecture from the University of Reading, and a Foundation in Fine Art from UCA (University for the Creative Arts). I have recently published a research monograph with Routledge called 'Cartographic Abstraction in Contemporary Art: Seeing with maps'.

Tutoring Experience

I have experience of teaching in both higher education and the charity sector, where I have worked with vulnerable adult learners. The MA students I have taught have given extremely positive feedback on my teaching, and I have also had my teaching assessed at university level as part of the Postgraduate Certificate in Management of Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. I am an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (which is an organisation that provides accreditation and support for teaching in HE).

Tutoring Approach

I will start by understanding what you want to achieve from tutoring, and familiarising myself with any institutional framework that you are working within - for example, the course content of your degree module, and its exam requirements. I will work with you to understand your learning style and the kind of support you need, and guide you toward achieving your goal through discussion and written feedback on your work.

I am available on some daytimes, or weekday evenings.
