I have been teaching in Norfolk for the past 10 years and have taught at 3 Norfolk high schools in this time. I am happy to tutor in KS2, KS3 and GCSE.
I thoroughly enjoy tutoring and love the 'lightbulb' moment when a pupil understands a topic they've previously been struggling with. Previous tutee's have gone from dreading maths at GCSE to taking AS level or higher maths in college due to a new found enthusiasm for the subject. Last year all my tutees obtained the grades they needed to get on their chosen college course and in many cases this was higher than their predicted grades. As a current high school teacher I am familiar with the new curriculum and all the changes involved, including the new topics which have been added to Ks2 and GCSE such as frequency trees, differentiation, iteration and Roman numerals. I have lots of resources available for all levels. I would always recommend choosing a tutor who is still teaching as they will be up to date with the latest training and curriculum changes, many ex teachers do not stay current with the changes and this may impact on the tutoring experience.
Several ex tutees have become friends and I pride myself on a high level of referred or 'word of mouth' leads.
I am also a previous primary school governor and as such I have a high understanding of the way primary schools work as well as secondary. I have been a previous chair of the finance committee of governors and governor in charge if primary to secondary numeracy.
I have been teaching in Norfolk for the past 10 years and have taught at 3 Norfolk high schools in this time. I am happy to tutor in KS2, KS3 and GCSE maths, entrance exams in verbal reasoning, non verbal reasoning and maths and ITT numeracy tests. I have previously specialised in students who are GCSE C/D boarderline students (now grade 3 to 5) and have a good success rate for them obtaining the 5 grade (or higher) that they required. The change in the maths curriculum obviously means that these students now require a minimum of a 5 (old high c/ low b) to be considered to have achieved a 'good' pass and in most cases this is the lowest pass that colleges will accept for level 2 courses. Many tutors who have stopped teaching will have no experience of teaching the 1-9 course and in some cases will not have taught the new topics at all, I would always recommend choosing a tutor who currently teaches in a secondary school as they are up to date with the latest changes in the curriculum and indeed in the exams.
I have also tutored two pupils who were taking their 11+ entrance exams for grammer schools both of whom passed and were offered places. I have most of the bond series Verbal Reasoning and Non Verbal Reasoning books as well as the maths books in the same range and I am happy to tutor in these areas as well.
I have experience of tutoring PGCE students and other students that are required to pass GCSE equivalency exams or skills tests in order to take a degree or post grad course at UEA.
I am happy to tutor either face to face, in your own home, or by email/Skype. I aim to build a rapport with my tutees and am very approachable when they have problems. I try to find alternative methods for any problem areas as different tutees have different styles of learning and a new approach can often be all that is needed. Quite often a pupils confidence will be very low when I first visit, however many tutees have said that after just a few lessons their confidence had returned and they felt able to face the exams with confidence rather than horror.
I also tutor children (and teenagers), who have become disillusioned with maths due to not being challenged. As previously mentioned I tutor up to level 6 for ks2 pupils which is a level for gifted pupils, sometimes poor behaviour or lack of engagement is due to lack of challenge and finding things 'easy'. I try to find a 'hook' to re engage these pupils and have been very successful so far.
I have references available from previous tutees and please read my feedback. Please note all lessons are on a one to one basis so the pupil has my full attention for the lesson, something that cannot always be taken for granted with private tutors.
