Having to juggle studying, hobbies and university applications can make your last years in school pretty tough. However, learning from someone who is extremely passionate about their field and has experience in tutoring will help to boost your confidence (and grades) and make the transition to more challenging work much more enjoyable. My name's Claire and I'm a first year PhD at University of Nottingham. I've recently graduated from Durham University, gaining a First Class Honours in my Masters of Chemistry degree. I am very devoted to Chemistry and hope to pursue a career in renewable energies. With a wealth of experience in leading drama groups and having tutored children of many ages during my school years and at University, I feel I have the confidence to tutor in an enthusiastic and engaging manner whilst also bringing in element of fun to my teaching. I am very adaptable, and feel strongly that each and every student should have a tutoring experience that is tailored to their wants and needs and will help them to reach their full potential.
For the past three years, I have been tutoring A level students Chemistry on an online platform. I have gained experience in tutoring all the main exam boards, and I'm very familiar with the content held within these exam boards. I have taught a variety of students with different abilities and I have learnt to adapt my tutoring skills to each individual in order for them to get the most out of my tutorials. I also have a years experience tutoring an A level student one-on-one in a local sixth form. A background in drama, means I am a confident and charismatic teacher, who is able to adjust my pace and tone to match that of my student.
My sessions are all about you! I'm here to help you achieve your best and that means I will use I will structure our tutorials in a way that helps you understand your subject well, revise effectively and prepare for those all important exams. Some students learn best by having content explained to them verbally, some prefer a more pictoral approach. Some learn best by verbal question and answer sessions, and some like to learn by completing written questions. Whatever works best for you, we will do! The best way for me to structure our sessions around you is by making sure we communicate. By telling me what you might be struggling, which questions are really bugging you, or methods you prefer to learn by, you will help me to help you tackle every scientific or mathematic problem you might come across!
The most important thing for you to do to make our sessions super effective is to let me know what topic you want to go through at least an hour before our lesson starts. This will give me plenty of time to prepare materials, think of ways to explain the tricky parts of the subject and find questions that will cement and further your knowledge. I have experience in teaching most exam boards, but each one is slightly different and covers different material. I will always ensure I'm up to date with your exam board's syllabus, so that I'm always ready to cover the important material for you.
