This is how 2 referees rated Chrystalla:
I am an Imperial College BSc Biochemistry graduate with an MRes in Stem Cell Biology from UCL (finished with Distinction and awarded a Dean's List nomination). I went on to complete a second MRes in Respiratory and Cardiovascular science at Imperial College (with Distinction) and I am currently on the second year of my PhD at the National Heart and Lung institute at Imperial College.
As a current PhD student I am very enthusiastic about my field. The main reason I tutor is to get the opportunity to spread my passion to younger individuals, and help them understand key concepts, making the lesson as interesting as possible.
During the first two years of my undergraduate degree I was volunteering as a tutor to support younger students, by providing help with their homework, assignments, test revision and study skills. During my Masters degree I took the initiative to form a study group for postgraduate computing engineering students, to help them understand basic biological principles to support them with a Bioinformatics module.
Currently and for the past two years I have been a free-lance tutor and I have helped a number of GCSE, AS and A-level students.
Additionally, I have helped graduate and post-graduate students (BSc Biomedical Sciences, MSc Biosciences, etc) with revision, journal club presentations, assignment proof-reading and exam preparation for a number of modules including infection, immunology, cell biology, molecular biology and stem cell biology.
Starting from your course material, we will build up on the key aspects you were shown in class, to give you a solid background of the major biological and biochemical concepts. A major part of the first lesson will be a discussion, to allow me to understand what you need to learn. I will then try to assess your current level using a simple worksheet. We will take it from there together, but I am always open to suggestions and alterations to the lesson direction as we go. According to your feedback, I will adapt the lesson to your way of learning (whether it is by listening, solving problems, practicing past paper questions or discussing).
