Media / Communication Studies
I'm extremely passionate about Media & Media Studies in particular. After completing A-Levels in Media Studies, English Literature & Sports Studies, I completed a BA (Hons) degree in Media & Popular Culture at Leeds metropolitan, in which I gained a 2:1.
I then went on to do a Post-Graduate Degree in Broadcast Journalism, where I was fully trained in Radio, online & TV Journalism.
I completed my PCET Teaching Qualification specialising in Creative Arts at Huddersfield University in 2011. I have full QTS status including a valid CRB check.
Since completing my PGCE I have worked as a teaching assistant in a Sixth Form College Media Department, supporting students with their AS & A Level coursework, as well as practical assignments
I now work Full Time in a Further Education College teaching BTEC Creative Media Production, across a wide range of subjects including Radio, Journalism & TV & Film. I have taught at Levels 2 & 3.
I like to make my subject specialism relatable to students & believe in learning through context & experiential teaching & learning (learning through doing). This way I feel that students can understand better the reasons why they are being taught specific things in specific ways, & see the context of their learning in relation to the real Media world.
I have a relaxed, friendly approach to teaching, I believe it's not about shouting or telling off, but by making myself & the subject matter relatable to students, & this approach has worked for me thus far. I think my age (I'm 30) helps me to be relatable to students, & helps me to be in touch with the modern media world that is part of what students study in both A Level & BTEC qualifications.
