Personal Description:

I am a qualified Pharmacist having graduated from Queen's University Belfast in 2011 with an 2:1 MPharm degree. Further to this I have passed the required examinations to become registered with the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland. Having also worked for a year in the pharmaceutical industry, I can offer an extensive knowledge of both the theoretical aspects of chemistry relevant to examinations, but also the real-life application of chemistry on an industrial and professional scale. I am ideally placed to tutor those candidates seeking a place at university to study pharmacy or medicine, as I am myself currently studying medicine at Queen's University Belfast.

The main subject that I am qualified to tutor is chemistry, as I have always had a lifelong passion for this subject. At A-level, I scored 600/600 points and won a silver medal in Chemistry at the Irish Science Olympiad 2007 at DCU.

Tutoring Experience:

During my school years and in the recent year I have worked as a piano teacher. This has provided me with the essential experience in teaching difficult concepts and achieving results with tutees.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a holistic approach to tutoring, in that I relate every aspect of the topic I'm teaching to the overall broader picture. Chemistry is a complex subject that requires a step-by-step approach in bite-size pieces. Being a strong visual learner, I like to take this approach to teaching the subject with the use of diagrams to explain the flow of processes and reactions. This approach is very effective in chemistry as it is by nature a visual and practical subject that studies the molecular changes surrounding us. I take an informal approach to tutoring, never wanting the tutee to feel uncomfortable to ask a question. The subject is an extremely complicated one, especially towards A2 level and thus my relaxed (but exacting) and informal approach allows tutees to debate freely about aspects they are having trouble with.
