Christopher

Lambeth Tutor

I have been teaching for 22 years. I have taught in a range of schools (both independent and state), focusing mainly on Media Studies and Film Studies, as well as English, from KS3 to KS5; I have also taught Drama and Theatre Studies. I have been a Head of Department for 13 years and, as a Senior A Level examiner and OFQUAL Subject Expert, I continue to examine extensively at GCSE and A Level. Therefore, I have a very strong grasp of assessment frameworks and exam criteria. I have been a private tutor for almost 20 years and have taught a range of students from KS2 Maths and English right through to small group tutoring for A Level Media Studies, Film Studies and Theatre Studies. I really enjoy private tutoring and I have a very good track record of getting students excellent results. I have served as a lecturer in Media and Drama at the Central School of Speech and Drama but I am, by preference, an enthusiastic secondary teacher and work, right now, at a large secondary school in west London, TEACHING the subjects that I am qualified in. As well as teaching full time, I also visit schools and colleges as a lecturer in Revision and Deeper Learning, helping students to build more secure strategies for successful and independent learning. To this end I am currently undertaking a MA which focuses on innovation and impact to be at the centre of educational practice.

Tutoring Experience

PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO HAVE A TEACHING QUALIFICATION (PGCE) AND 22 YEARS OF TEACHING EXPERIENCE.

I have been a Head of Department in a number of schools, many of which have been successful in Ofsted inspections. I am also an Advanced Skills Tutor (AST) and I do numerous revision sessions at a range of schools across the country, many of which I have been asked to return year after year.

I have taught from KS2 basic skills right through to lecturing and assessing post-graduates. I have, and continue to teach, very different abilities and I always strive to get the best for all the students that I teach. I have developed a really wide range of skills to help students access exam frameworks and understand assessment points. As a practicing classroom teacher and current examiner, I am expertly placed, right at the 'centre' of contemporary teaching and learning.

Tutoring Approach

I always bring a new skill or concept to each session and we will very clearly work through a number of exercises to re-enforce the skill. The other thing that I am really keen on doing is encouraging students/tutees to develop how to 'self-learn', thus encouraging better organisation and more autonomous approaches to learning.
