I graduated from the University of Leeds in 2013 and have recently spent a year in Japan teaching English to students ranging from primary school age to adult. I am due to start a Master's degree course in Intellectual Property Law in September at Queen Mary University of London. My background is in science, but I hold an interest in an eclectic range of subjects from sport to literature to debate.
Having studied Japanese while I was in Japan, I am aware of the difficulties of learning a foreign language. As a teacher, I use my own experiences and know the importance of being approachable, friendly and clear.
I have recently returned from Japan, where I taught conversation English to a wide range of students up to adult. I was there for over a year and in that time, I managed to practise and develop my teaching skills so that they served my students in the most effective manner, catering for their individual needs.
I first began teaching English as a foreign language at International House London, where I gained a CELTA qualification. This enabled me to find employment in Japan and has been invaluable to me as a reference point in my professional career.
Previously, I have had experience coaching rowing at University and organising holiday camps for children in the summer.
I am a firm believer in maximum student participation. You learn by making mistakes and you only make mistakes by practising your language. As a tutor, I guide and correct as is necessary and provide encouragement and a solid starting point for the tutee to flourish.
