I am a friendly approachable teacher known throughout the borough. I have taught in various parts of the UK prior to settling in Wigan where I have worked in private settings as well as in the state sector in both primary and secondary schools.I have been active in charities such as the Dyslexia Association in raising awareness. I am married with four children.
I have worked in primary and secondary schools and have also taught adult learners. I have a lot of experience in teaching one-to-one for Wigan Borough working for a Pupil Referral Service, a Home and Hospital Teaching Service and for Children and Young Peoples' Service, helping to enhance GCSE grades.I have recently been working for Salford Education authority where I combined class teaching and one-to-one pupil support. Have recently received up to date training in one-to-one teaching run by Wigan Education Authority.
My approach is and always has been in line with the approach offered by the authority, ie., to support the pupil in his/her learning by providing the appropriate setting in terms of support and academic guidance. It is important, since children and adults who seek help are often diffident and may need encouragement to articulate their needs. Throughout the years, familiarity with the curriculum has enabled the tutor to anticipate and to closely plan lessons according to the needs of the individual learner.
There are many confluence points between class teaching and tuition but tutoring children is is often more probing and focused. My aim is always to communicate to the learner a great love and relish for learning, to make lessons as fun as possible and to instil in the learner a sense of responsibility for his or her life-long learning.
