I really enjoy helping people to improve their communication skills: as a secondary school English teacher, I have been able to support students' verbal and written communication skills and develop their confidence in reading analytically; I love it! I am passionate about English Literature and always have been. My degree is from Manchester University (many years ago now!) and I really enjoy teaching my subject and sharing my passion. I love teaching Shakespeare in particular as it is lovely to see pupils engage and enjoy his work rather than being put off by the language. I am about to retire from teaching but I don't want to give up that feeling of helping - and hopefully inspiring- others.
I have been a teacher for 14 years. During that time I have taught students from ages 11 to 18. I would say that my particular strengths lie in teaching GCSE English Language and Literature and A Level English Literature. I have recent experience of AQA and Eduqas exam boards and have many years experience of interpreting and applying new specifications and creating appropriate schemes of work. I have taught all abilities and have been very successful both with pupils struggling with English and also with students who are very able. I have a good deal of experience of one- to - one tuition, both within the school environment where I have regularly provided extra support for pupils who needed it and in a private situation where I have supported the children of friends.
Although I am passionate about my subject, I understand that this passion isn't shared by all! I am patient and take the time to find out what a student's needs are. Tuition sessions will be adapted to suit the needs of the individual, of course. At the heart of a good learning environment is a relationship between teacher and student: I listen and believe that I am good at creating this relationship.
