Personal Description:

I am a final year medical student at the University of Manchester who has been based in Preston for several years. During this time I have been studying and working at RPH, applying the knowledge I have gained thus far in a clinical setting. I also spent a year studying Sports and Exercise Science at Loughborough University between 2015/16, and graduated in July 2016 with a BSC (Hons). After I graduate from medicine I plan to join the Royal Army Medical Corps to gain invaluable experience in a high-pressure environment. I think this will help me further develop my skills and character both as a doctor and a person.

I am a hard-working and motivated individual who always aims to do his best. I have played the guitar for the past 8 years and have represented Stockport in Squash several times whilst in high school.

Tutoring Experience:

In college I spent two weeks in India working with and providing support to primary school children. We also visited three orphanages, one of which was in the slums of Mumbai, and helped the cares with their daily routines.

In Secondary school I was one of only three people to be both a PAL and a Prefect. These were two distinct roles which respectively involved caring for and mentoring younger years (particularly years 7 and 8) during their transition into the new school, and acting as a liaison between my fellow students and the teachers and council running the school. As a prefect I was expected to attend regular meetings and set an example to my peers.

I also have experience working with young adults in a residential setting. In both 2015 and 2016 I spent 3 weeks of my summer mentoring a group of twelve 15-17 year olds as part of the government run scheme NCS. This involved ensuring their safety in a wide variety of tasks including rock climbing, abseiling, canoeing and gorge walking, as well as promoting personal growth and the development of key skills such as public speaking, cooking, teamwork and communication and even charity work.

I have been tutoring for over 3 years during which I have taught a total of 13 different A-level and GCSE students.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel that in the right environment every student is capable of achieving their full potential. In school the difficulty often lies in the inability to provide a teaching style that will be appropriate and beneficial to every child in the class, and so often those who do not work best from traditional teaching methods are left without proper guidance and help. As well as focusing on identifying each students strengths and weaknesses, I aim to introduce a rewards scheme in order to get the best out of them.

I also see weekly progression and review of topics as an essential part of learning, as seeing this development helps boost students self-confidence and motivation, as well as their understanding of the subject. I encourage my students to ask questions and be inquisitive, as I find that they are much more capable and willing to learn if the subject interests them. Ultimately I aim for them to enjoy themselves and want to do better week-on-week.
