History and Law Lessons in Highbury

I am a friendly tutor and a qualified solicitor with a First Class degree from the University of Cambridge. I am also fluent in Japanese and am currently studying for a Master's degree at SOAS.

I have dual degrees in Law and in Japanese Studies. For my undergraduate degree, I studied Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (concentrating on Japanese Studies) at Trinity College, Cambridge, before converting to Law. Having taken the Graduate Diploma in Law and the Accelerated Legal Practice Course, I began my training contract at Slaughter and May - one of the most prestigious law firms in the world.

After qualifying as a solicitor at Slaughter and May, I specialised in the firm's Competition and EU Law group; however, I have experience practising a wide variety of other areas of Law and am able to teach many LLB, GDL and LPC modules (see below).

I have now returned to academia and am completing a Master's degree.

I am able to tutor:

Law - up to graduate level (including LLB, GDL, LPC etc.) in a variety of areas, including: EU, Competition, Contract, Criminal, Land, Constitutional & Administrative and Company Law, and most LPC modules (Business, Property, Litigation etc.). I have particularly extensive experience tutoring BPP’s LPC modules.

I am able to provide course tutoring, essay and problem question feedback and assistance with drafting essays and problem question answers. I also offer tuition in skills-based assessments such as legal writing and research.

Japanese Studies/East Asian Studies - up to degree level

History - at degree level (especially essay writing skills)

English as a foreign/second language - at any level

General essay writing skills for a variety of academic subjects

I am also able to offer advice on UCAS applications, particularly applications to Oxford and Cambridge, as well as professional legal applications e.g. Training Contract applications.

Tutoring Experience

I have experience tutoring:

  • Law to LLB, GDL and LPC students, as well as legal skills such as research and essay writing

  • English as a foreign language and Japanese to a variety of students (young and old)

  • General essay writing skills to university and postgraduate students

  • Application advice for university admission, vacation schemes, training contracts etc.

Tutoring Approach

I am friendly, fun and approachable tutor - I want to make sure you enjoy learning with me!

I will be sure to establish from the outset what your goals are, so that we can make sure we are set to achieve these. We can adapt lessons and tutoring patterns to make sure they fit your needs and I can be entirely flexible in that regard.

I am happy to discuss travelling to you to tutor (subject to distance and hours booked), and am also very happy to welcome you to my home to be tutored, or to have lessons online.
