I gained a First Class Honours degree in History at university and I am the Head of History at an academically selective independent school. The topics I am particularly familiar with are as follows: the History National Curriculum, Germany 1871-1945, Twentieth Century International Relations, The Russian Revolution, USA 1850-2009, The First World War, The Second World War, Vietnam, The German Reformation 1517-1555, The European Witchcraze 1580-1650, Ireland 1798-1922, USA 1865-2009. In addition, I have helped several tutees be awarded places at their first choice secondary school at 11+ and 13+ and am familiar with entrance examinations for Merchant Taylors', Haberdashers' and John Lyon, to name a few. For Sixth Form students, I am happy to assist with Oxbridge entrance requirements, for example, the History Aptitude Test, as well as help to construct UCAS personal statements.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught in co-educational state schools and independent schools for twelve years. I have been Head of History for nine years and the IGCSE and A Level results achieved by my students have been consistently outstanding. I attend professional development courses on an on-going basis and I am aware of all changes to education and know about the requirements of a wide range of examination boards.

Tutoring Approach

Tutoring sessions will be directed by the tutee, who has thought about the areas in which they need additional help. If the requirement is for me to help to make certain topic based concepts clearer for the student, then I am happy to assist in this way. If the need is for me to help the pupil to apply knowledge to a certain type of question or practise a key subject skill, I will ensure that I help the tutee to improve in this area as well. I utilise past papers frequently to ensure that application of knowledge is accurate and that students in all years make progress.
