Private Online Maths and English Tutor

Currently working as a research and development specialist having obtained an Engineering Science PhD from the University of Oxford last year. I'm sociable and easy going, but have always balanced this approach with my enthusiasm to learn about life. I have a keen interest in space science but also am interested in other scientific disciplines. Coming from a multicultural background, I do enjoy travelling and meeting new people from different walks of life. I am very passionate about the power of education and love exchanging knowledge and ideas with my students.

Tutoring Experience

The majority of my experience is tutoring primary and secondary school students, who have either wanted to boost their grades or have struggled in class and needed additional support. However, I also enjoy tutoring older and mature students, having had plenty of experience marking entrance exam scripts for the University of Oxford during my PhD.

Tutoring Approach

Initially, I would gauge what the level of my student's understanding is, and where their difficulties lie. Having previously had experience tutoring dyslexic students who lacked motivation in their studies, I found that it is vital to get a feel for how the student becomes more engaged. Of course, each individual is different however it soon becomes clear what a student's learning style is. I believe it is important to develop this relationship between the tutor and student, so that learning becomes fluid rather than a chore, and most importantly so that the student can enjoy the topic that they are being taught.

Teaching Reviews:

A phone call from my previous Year 8 student's mother (Jacqueline had severe dyslexia and was consistently bottom of her class in maths) - "Jacqueline got the top mark in her in-class maths test! We can't thank you enough."

Anita, a 6-year old Maths and English student - "I used to hate learning but you make it fun! I love our Saturdays together!"
