Personal Description:

I am a PhD researcher at the School of Education of the University of Leeds. I focus on English as a foreign language and its teaching. I have an MA (Distinction) in English Language Teaching, a BA (first) in Interpreting and Translation and a DELTA (Diploma for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).

Languages and teaching are my two passions. I have worked as a teacher for five years and as an interpreter and translator for eight years. I have worked, studied and travelled in a few cities in the UK, Spain and Italy.

Tutoring Experience:

Five years as a teacher of English as a foreign language first at Aston University, Birmingham, then in a language school in Valladolid, Spain. I then moved to Milan, Italy, where I taught business English in companies and general and academic English at the University of Milan. I also have two years of experience teaching Spanish and one year teaching Italian.

Tutoring Approach:

Education is my field of expertise, therefore I dedicate myself to my students thoroughly, while making sure that they reach whatever their goal might be. I have studied languages and linguistics for over fifteen years, hence I am aware of the difficulties that students are faced with when they approach such a task. Furthermore, I am knowledgeable about the research proving what the best teaching methodologies are in this field.

My method consists of identifying the starting level of the student and building a syllabus based on the student's needs. I aim at developing communicative skills, hence I concentrate on the simultaneous development of speaking, writing, listening and reading skills with the support of customised and engaging materials. I also regard vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation as important, and my students work on them in a structured way. Learning languages is a matter of being challenged a little bit at a time, assimilating and putting into practice: this is exactly what my students do to achieve their goals.
