I am in the 3rd year of a PhD in History at the University of Reading, specialising in Medieval France.
I love teaching, and helping to inspire students to learn. I believe that building confidence is key, as well as encouraging students to feel passionate about learning. I have experience teaching students in both the UK, and France, at all levels from KS2 to undergraduates at university.
My Education: I graduated with a First Class degree in History and French from the University of Reading in 2014, and completed a Masters of Research in Medieval History in 2015, achieving Distinction. I am due to submit my PhD thesis in 2019.
I am a Sessional Lecturer in the History Department at the University of Reading. I teach on an undergraduate survey module, which covers a wide range of subjects from the Norman Conquest to the Cold War. I teach students how to analyse historical sources, how to think critically, and how to plan and write good academic essays.
I adore France, and its language. I lived in the south of France for a year, and spent six months researching in Paris for my doctorate. I have experience teaching beginners French to very young children, right through to A-Level students.
During my Masters year, I also taught Business French to employees of a British company with French clients.
English Literature is a passion of mine. In 2013, I thoroughly enjoyed designing fun and innovative English lessons at a school in the South of France. I am also an ASK advisor at the University of Reading, which involves working with students on a one-to-one basis to help improve their academic writing, critical analysis, and essay structure.
Every student is different, and I believe that it is essential to adapt to the different learning styles and personalities of each student. Learning should never be boring, and I do my very best to help students feel at ease. I endeavour to build up the confidence of my students, and their interest in learning.
