I am language lover, having learned German and French from school up to university. It was here where I also picked up Spanish. I used these to broaden my horizons, gain vital life and work experience in language jobs both in the UK and abroad. My degree year abroad included teaching English in Austria, working in a hotel in France and volunteering in a day care centre in Ecuador. I have also used my languages to do voluntary work in Argentina and a summer placement at Disneyland Paris. Most recently I have started an online beginners course in Mandarin and spent last summer at a language school in China. Languages are incredibly useful to enable you to communicate and learn about other cultures, people and traditions. I appreciate that they can be difficult to learn but the effort put in is always rewarded.

Private language tutor to GCSE and adult students, including teacher English as a foreign language.
I am not a native speaker, so I appreciate the difficulties that can be had when learning a language - for example I have recently started Mandarin, which is completely new and unlike anything I have seen or done before! Learning a language takes time but the rewards are well worth it!
Usually I talk to students (in English!) about their language learning - what they want to achieve, what they find easy, what they difficult, what they most enjoy, what they dislike. I take this all in to consideration and tailor tutoring sessions to the need and level of the individual. Throughout and at the end of sessions I discuss with the student and get feedback with regards to how they found the activity and how it can be improved and/or adapted for future use.
Learning languages needs to incorporate all the four skills - speaking, reading, listening, writing - these all lend themselves to each other and working on each, improves overall language ability. Where possible I use a range of resources in tutoring sessions to make language learning as easy and enjoyable as possible - songs, radio, videos, news bulletins, weather reports, newspaper, magazines, dictionaries, games, quizzes, comprehension activities, exam practise, realia, cultural topics about the country(ies) in question etc.
Each student is individual in their learning style and preferences, therefore I take time to get to know the student and work hard to ensure that they can achieve their language learning goals!
