I graduated from Oxford University with a Master’s degree in chemistry, and have been a full time tutor ever since.
Science and maths have always been subjects which have challenged students. The abstract topics and the bewildering amount of learning often leaves them at a loss. I try to demystify these subjects by giving my students a deeper understanding of the processes at work and an appreciation for why they might have struggled with it in the first place. I find that this gives them the necessary motivation and confidence to take on and excel at the tougher topics, and ultimately gives them the edge required to get a top grade.
I have been tutoring full time since summer 2017 and part time for another 2 years on top of that. I specialise in A level and GCSE, but have also successfully prepared students for Oxbridge entry. Having recently gone through the academic system, I believe I have a valuable understanding of the syllabus and a better appreciation for the tougher subjects.
I am very familiar with all the common syllabuses including the new GCSEs for 2018 and the IB for chemistry.
I tutor freelance as well as for a number of top agencies in London.
I am friendly and open in my approach, I want my students to feel at ease and not worried to ask 'silly questions' - there is no such thing. Every student has a different approach to learning and I always make sure that I explain things in a way that works for them. I always prepare thoroughly for every student and heavily customise my lessons to suit their individual needs.
I teach a lot of my students remotely, so I am well experienced at online tutoring. I use Skype to speak face to face with student, in conjunction with an online whiteboard which we can both write on. I use an electronic pen and tablet which allows me to draw diagrams and equations more accurately than with standard mouse.
