I am married with 2 teenage children and have lived in Manchester for over 30 years. I gained a Masters Degree in History at the University of Manchester after completing both my first degree and teaching qualification. In my free time I enjoy watching a variety of sports, with some occasional participation. Along with my family I enjoy a range of films and shows, as well as a variety of musical genres. I have travelled extensively in both north America and Europe, and I have also visited northern India and Nepal.
I have been a teacher of History, Archaeology and Politics to A Level, in colleges and schools, for 26 years. I am also an experienced examiner for both Pearson/Edexcel in A Level History, for the IB Diploma and for Cambridge International Examinations. I trained as a teacher with History as my first subject and Maths as the subsidiary subject having gained an A Level in both Maths and Physics alongside History.
I am friendly and positive tutor who tries to support my students through all the challenges of learning and preparing for exams. In helping students I am responsive to individual learning styles and recognise the need to adjust the pace of learning to suit each person.

Hannah had become very concerned about the mass of information in the History course. Her college class was excessively large and she was struggling to make the transition from GCSE.
Charles' input enabled Hannah to understand more about the context of different topics through discussion, supplemented by a very practical emphasis on the importance of interpretation, exam technique and past papers. Gradually, this enabled Hannah to increase her confidence.
Charles was very open to suggestions on specific needs as the course progressed. His manner was very patient and considered and he was extremely reliable. I would highly recommend Charles to other students.
I need help with my A-Level History exam technique and coursework. I found Charles very helpful, he gave clear instruction providing useful resources and helped me to build my confidence. He was knowledgable about all aspects of my A-Level specification and I would highly recommend Charles.

His lessons are structured and explained in a manner that is easy for me to understand. He always goes the extra mile to help me if I have any questions or problems. In a very short period of time he has taught me so much and I have really grown in confidence. I am extremely happy with Charles and would highly recommend him to anyone studying history.
Thank you Charles.
