Personal Description:

I am currently at the University of Nottingham. I feel that I have a warm and welcoming personality which from experience has made students comfortable around me and thus able to learn quicker and better. On top of that I think that I am a rather persuasive person which is arguably the key attribute needed by a private tutor.

Tutoring Experience:

Having spent 2 years as a private tutor (1 year in London and 1 year in Nottingham) I have had the pleasure of teaching a variety age groups and abilities. Many of my previous students were GCSE students looking to improve their grades which has allowed me to familiarise myself with the exam boards; both higher and foundation tier. These students also varied in age from year 8 all the way up to lower sixth. I am also experienced with younger students (year 7-8) and mainly helped them keep up with the school syllabus as well as push ahead of their cohort. Finally I have had a fair amount of experience with younger children (aged 6-10) who I have mostly been teaching in order for them to keep up with the work done at school.

Adult learners is perhaps where I have the least experience in. However over the last 2 years I have had students who were adult learners, I have mostly been helping them with exam retakes.

Furthermore I have spent 6 months as a teaching assistant for a special needs school which has made me confident in working with a wide array of students.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel that open mindedness is the most important aspect to my approach. There is no set method that works for everyone. Having a distinct memory of my lessons at a young age I remember that people learn differently and forcing someone to learn the textbook way may not always yield the best results. On top of that I feel a more holistic approach is one that works the best: it is not simply about doing the exact things needed for an exam board. Instead I feel that it is more important to teach all aspects of a subject to expand a student's knowledge and interest than simply practising exam questions over and over again. However that is not to say that boot camp exam preparation is unnecessary; they are in fact critical in the build up to the exam period.
