Maths and English Lessons in Barnet

SEN Specialist Tutor (especially ASD; ADHD; dyspraxia; dyscalculia and dyslexia).
I studied psychology at LSBU and am now coming up to my final year studying Mathematics at the OU. I have been working in education for over 7 years, in both primary and secondary schools before becoming a full-time tutor in 2020. As well as Maths, I have a TEFL qualification, so I do a lot of work with second language English students. My experience ranges from tutoring high achieving primary school students, to adults with learning difficulties. I have tutored students who are preparing for entrance exams; students who need additional support with their learning; and students who have shown an interest in extra subjects.
I am very calm and pride myself on forming a strong bond with each student to ensure they feel relaxed and motivated in each of my lessons. I really enjoy Maths and I really enjoy tutoring which definitely is shown during my lessons.

Tutoring Experience

I have been a full time tutor as of 2020; and had been a part time tutor from 2016. I have successfully taught students through 5+, 7+, 11+, Functional Skills and GCSE's (Foundation and Higher) with all students achieving higher than expected grades and/or getting into their first choice of school. I work with students who are preparing for said exams, as well as students who just need an extra boost alongside their current school work. I also work with students who are unable to attend school and need to be taught at home (either online or in person). I currently have a 100% pass rate for all of my students taking exams!

August - October 2015: TEFL in Sri Lanka. Taught in various places, including colleges, primary schools and temples 5 days a week.
February - July 2016: LSA at Bridge Academy. Worked with students from year 7 to year 13 of all abilities, in all subjects.
September 2016 - February 2017: Morningside Primary School. Maths teacher to the SEN year 6 children; held small classes teaching reception children to read/write; one-to-one with a special needs year 5 student with severe behavioural difficulties, and lead several nurture classes.
February - July 2017: St. Ignatious Primary School. Maths teacher to year 6 classes. After school tutoring to certain year 6 students. Maths intervention teacher to years 3, 4 and 5. Ran small English classes for year 5's.
August 2017 - February 2020: Heartlands High School. SEN Maths LSA. Work with year 7s to year 11s, assisting in all subjects. Taught Maths Study Skills to students preparing for their GCSE's. Held precision teaching to assist students with their spelling/general writing skills. Have taken part in training to further my ability to teach maths to all ages. Worked closely with a few EAL students to help them progress in all subjects.

Tutoring Approach

Preferably one-to-one, but small groups would work. Minimum hour long sessions, working through questions based around the topics the student is doing in school as well as general curriculum work. Practice papers for those who are preparing for exams (GCSEs for example). Building up general understanding of Maths (times tables, addition etc.) potentially with the use of manipulatives.
Style of tutoring depends on the age of the student and their needs. I very much tailor my approach to the specific student and what it is they need the most help with.
