Personal Description:

My name is Célia and I come from a lovely wine region in France called Burgundy. I arrived in England in 2002 and I studied hard for 4 years in order to get my Masters degree. I have a gorgeous little girl called Emilie who is now bilingual thanks to her daddy speaking to her in English and her mummy in French. I have set up my own language business from home and now I regularly welcome children of all ages to learn French.

There are several reasons why I decided to set up my own language business from home.
First, I am passionate about my country and i feel very proud not just to help people learn my language but also to experience the culture.
Second, I had a cursus in France based on literature with a specific linguistic focus allowing me to learn English as well as Spanish and Italian.
Third, I love working with children and young people and I believe the earlier they start the easier it is going to be for them to be familiar with the language.
Finally, I am very patient, focused and a good communicator so I firmly believe my personality added to my skills and work experiences makes me right for the job.

Tutoring Experience:

I am working at local nurseries in the morning in Bolton teaching French to playgroup and pre school children. I am also tutoring home school children (primary level) as well as GCSE students and AS/A-Levels students at night and weekend. I also work with individuals daytime wise. Recently I have been approached by a local primary school to set up a French club.

Tutoring Approach:

In accordance to the school syllabus relative to the pupils age, each lesson emphasises listening, focuses on communication and develops many other skills such as imagination and confidence. Also it builds up the child's knowlegde by promoting cultural aspect of France.
Each session lasts an hour and are supported by a wide range of materials (books, games, music CDs, DVDs, CD ROMs… ) in order to make the tutorial fun and lively!

Here is how I usually work with older children or GCSE and A-Levels pupils:

The objective is to find out about your learning goals (studies, holiday or business purposes) and to set a date for a meeting. This usually happens via emails or phone calls.

The first appointment lasts about 30minutes and is conducted in two parts. The first part of the interview enables us to meet each other, to understand your priorities and objectives and to evaluate whether the ratio time/goal is realistic. The last part is a quick written multiple choice test to determine your knowledge about the language. My tutorials are divided into 5 levels: beginners, beginners +, intermediate, intermediate +, and Advanced.
According to your results, i will have a specific tutorial schedule plan.
By the end of the meeting, we will have decided how and when we will be working together.

Communication is the key. The aim is to provide you with the tools that will enable you to communicate effectively in everyday situations. Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing are all areas worked on although emphasis can be placed on speaking or writing according to your examination format.
Every lesson is carried out within a meaningful context that includes references to french culture and history as well as current affairs of the country.

Obviously with the little ones the approach is far less rigid! it is all to do with learning while having fun using games and doing all sort of activities that they love like singing, colouring… Therefore a simple meeting can be arrange over the phone in order to get to know each other and then the focus is on building a relationship with the child and make sure he/she enjoys coming every week! :)
