Personal Description:

I love teaching, because I love learning.

I'm a fresh graduate from Cambridge University, where I studied Classics (Latin & Ancient Greek, Linguistics, History). I have a passion for languages and literature, having studied French, Spanish and Latin (and Maths) to A level, as well as History to AS - all of which I really enjoyed. I'm a big sister, dog-lover, glitter enthusiast and keen sports player. I won the "Little Miss Sunshine" award for trying to bring some sparkle into everything I do.

Tutoring Experience:

I was a primary school mentor throughout sixth form, helping teach and practice reading with primary school children.
Whilst at school, I also tutored students in GCSE Spanish and Latin.

For 4 years I was a Young Leader with GirlGuiding UK and a '4' Peer Educator, which meant running teaching sessions in schools and Brownie and Guide packs, covering topics from Media Awareness to Bullying to Healthy Lifestyles.

Alongside all this experience, I have 3 younger sisters, who all need homework help from time to time!

Tutoring Approach:

The most important thing is for a student to see the point in what they're trying to learn - not just learning for the sake of it, or because they have to. If you understand the purpose, you be far more successful in learning, and actually enjoy it. So I'll always start by addressing the question together: "what's the point?" Once we've worked that out, we'll go through the material at the student's pace to make sure no stone is left unturned.

It's a bit sad that the modern education system is so focused on exams, but it's true. So we will work specifically towards the goal from the beginning - not learning any extra irrelevant things, just tactically streamlining the studying to make the most efficient use of time. I've spent a lot of years working towards exams, and I think I've finally got the technique more or less perfected. I really hope I can pass on the wisdom!
