I am a 37 year old primary school teacher with twelve years teaching experience, mainly in Key Stage 2. I have worked as a private tutor for eight years. I am organised and professional and always ensure that the children I am teaching have clear targets to work towards that they understand. I set high standards and use positive reinforcement to encourage my pupils to achieve their potential. I am a warm and friendly person and genuinely enjoy working with children.

Tutoring Experience

I taught in a Trafford primary school for eight years, mainly in upper Key Stage 2, and privately tutored within the same area for six years. I am therefore experienced in helping children prepare for their grammar school entrance exams. This includes verbal and non verbal reasoning tests, as well as english and maths. I have tutored children ranging in age from 6 to 16. In some cases this has been tutoring for particular exams, in other cases I have provided general tuition to children who have needed that extra bit of help. After leaving Trafford, I worked in a very successful Bury primary school before leaving to have a baby. I have since taught small groups of children with Pupil Premium funding in another Bury primary school.

Tutoring Approach

I usually tutor one to one, although I am happy to tutor a small group of no more than three children. Following a discussion with the parent (s) regarding the child's needs, I carry out an initial assessment. From here I plan a suitable programme of work, but adapt this as we go along in response to my evaluation of each session. I will carry out regular assessments in order to monitor progress and provide ongoing feedback to the child and the parents. I try to make each lesson fun as well as educational as I believe that enjoyment is the key to learning. I am very flexible and happy to adapt my lesson plan if the parents would like me to focus on a particular area, perhaps an issue that has arisen that week at school or in homework.
