Personal Description:

I am recent graduate in Classics at the University of Cambridge, where I gained first class honours. I have spent a significant amount of time teaching large groups as well as tutoring individuals. I love working with children and young adults and inspiring them with a love of learning and enthusiasm for their subject.

Aside from my strong academic skills, I am very friendly and approachable, so my students are never scared to tell me that they don't understand or to rephrase something.

Tutoring Experience:

- I taught Minimus (primary school) Latin here in Cambridge once a week.
- I have tutored individuals for most secondary school subjects, through primarily in Latin and Spanish.
- I have taught several English and Maths classes in Brazil in Portuguese. Their ages ranged from 5-55, so I can relate to many ages and stages of learning.

Tutoring Approach:

I am extremely flexible in how and when I tutor, and over any time period. I enjoy helping students reach their full potential over extended time, or simply consolidating work they may have found tricky at school. They way I tutor is determined by the needs of my students, and how best they learn. My individual attention allows the student to discover their most effective learning strategies quickly and then to work upon them.

For younger students, my main approach is to use lots games and activities involving grammar or complex topics to encourage an enjoyment of the subject. I also focus on stories to maintain interest, ranging from the many wonderful stories and myths, to the narratives from many textbooks (Minimus, The Cambrigde Latin Course, Ecce Romani etc).

For older students, this approach is still important to gain a well-rounded overview of the subject. However, there clearly needs to be a stronger focus on grammar, set texts and exam technique. This can be driven mainly by the student if they highlight particular areas of concern, or we can cover the syllabus step by step.
